Today's Big Stuff 10.6.21

10.6.21

It’s Wednesday. There are 27 days until this year’s elections and 398 days until the midterm elections. Trump’s scum will defy Jan. 6 subpoenas because they’re scum, Republicans will vote to kill 6 million jobs again today and y’all really need to cancel AT&T.

Note: Happy Hump Day, you sexy motherhumping patriots! How in THE hell are you? Well you smell terrific. Here at TBS we like to ponder deep philosophical and ethical questions. But you probably knew that from all the talk of people having their heads stuck up their asses and other assorted poop jokes. Still, the other day we noticed a friendly twitter account suggesting they would really dig seeing the untimely passing of a certain Republican piece of shit. And it got us thinking — is it ok to wish some of these fuckers would shuffle off this mortal coil?

Now we might surprise you here given our infinite affinity for cussing these sonsofbitches to hell and back, but the answer we came up with is no, it’s not ok. Like really not ok. We get the temptation. We get the anger and the fear and the extreme sadness. These are bad people doing bad things to our country that seemed simply unimaginable not that long ago. They’re wiping their asses with the things we hold dearest, and the overall lack of accountability or logic is absolutely maddening. All that said, people on our side shouldn’t do that shit. Here’s why — A. It’s illegal as fuck and even just talking about that stuff is a good way to get banned from social media or a visit from the po-po. B. You’re inviting the worst kind of karma, and we need all the good karma we can get since you know the whole world is turning to a giant steaming turd in a toaster and C. You’re being a little Trumpy and we are way better than that fucking dirtbag. Now we know that last one might seem a little harsh, but isn’t one of the things that makes us right and them wrong is we believe we should settle our shit with words and ideas instead of guns and fucking bear spray and Don Jr?

Now look. We’re just some weird cussing newsletter that sometimes seems to be hitting on you. We sure as heck fire aren’t your fucking parents. But if anybody asks, we said people shouldn’t do that kind of thing. Because part of the fun of being a liberal is knowing you’re better than that shit and those shitheads. Well that and the lack of inbreeding.

Note two: Sorry. That wasn’t about y’all. That was about this dude Randy. Hey, Randy, get your shit together, you goddamn lunatic!

Note three: Great news! Team Biden is ramping up COVID testing. We’ve kinda wondered why this wasn’t already a bigger part of their response, but this is good. More: CNN

Note four: Andrew Yang has left the Democratic Party in order to try and sell books and get attention. We would’ve mentioned it earlier, but we didn’t give a shit.

Note five: Oh goddamnit it’s our lucky day. If there is anything we love in this world — even more than beaches and puppy snuggles — it’s a crying Jan. 6 terrorist begging for forgiveness. Well, asshole, you can stuff that apology, but keep them tears coming. More: Raw Story

Note six: Well lookie what we got over on TodaysBigStuff.com. Uncle Sam says that Republicans are killing machines and Democrats need to start saying so. Ya know, before they kill us all. More: Today's Big Stuff

Note seven: So as we’re talking about who and what Republicans really are, we are really sorta stunned today — and we know we shouldn’t be at this point — but it’s crazy how much candidates with histories of violence against women are thriving in today’s GOP. HuffPo looks at Herschel Walker and Eric Greitens, but we also have Stephanie Grisham from the Trump White House out here telling us that her ex, current Ohio congressional candidate Max Miller, abused her and the Trumps still endorsed him. This is some pretty fucked up shit, and we sure as hell hope Democrats talk about it more. More: Huff Post, Washington Post, Cleveland.com

Note eight: So France Haugen was very brave and took on Facebook in the Senate yesterday. We don’t really know what will come of it. We like Sen. Blumenthal and think he did a good job on this, but then we saw him on tv today saying he sure hopes Zuckerberg will come testify. So is that what we’re doing these days? Hoping for accountability? Well hope in one hand and shit in the other and see which hand gets full first. More: NBC News

Note nine: LOL. So we all know Trump was never as rich as he claimed to be, and he had no business being on the Forbes 400 to begin with. That said, we’re glad he was because it is fucking delicious watching him tumble off that sonbitch. What. A. Loser. More: Forbes

Note 10: Biden is doing more student loan reform. Keep going, bro! More: CNN

Note 11: So here’s our to-do list when it comes to governor’s races — this year it’s California (check), Virginia and New Jersey. But next year, we gotta hold another Big Three (Pa., Mich., Wisc.) to try and keep Republicans from stealing the 2024 presidential election. More: New York Times

Note 12: Another Trump lunatic was on Capitol Hill yesterday threatening more violence. This has become so common it’s barely a story. That’s probably not good, right? More: CNN

Note 13: Ron Johnson is the bleach injection of U.S. senators. Which is to say he’s stupid and gonna kill people. More: Washington Post

Note 14: VP Harris is headed to Jersey Friday. So Jersey is about to get cooler. More: NJ.com

Note 15: Are we gonna fly Delta anytime soon? Oh hell no we’re not. Seriously. Their name is fucking Delta. Shouldn’t they be the first to act on this shit? More: AJC

Note 16: That Trump guy running for governor in Virginia screwed over Taylor Swift. Swifties, activate! Oh and he wants to audit the Virginia 2020 results. Because he sucks. More: The Verge

Note 17: Republicans have completely abandoned democracy, and we’re already seeing that most GOP candidates are refusing to acknowledge that Joe Biden won fair and square. More: Huff Post

Note 18: So after we read this stunning profile of Sinema, we came away convinced that she’s not going to vote for any of our agenda. She’s a Trumper who fooled us all. We hope we’re wrong, but this is some messed up stuff. More: New York Times

Note 19: Ron DeSantis is an actual monster. Like he’s what you worry about being under the bed. More: ABC News

Note 20: One piece of good news for Democrats is that Biden is doing a fantastic job of filling judicial vacancies with really cool people who actually look like America. More: Huff Post

Note 21: Ok you damn sexy patriots, let’s get to the news! Before we do, we want to say a word about that name sexy patriots. We hear from folks on occasion who say that patriot makes us sound like Trumpers. Well, that obviously ain’t the case. We’re taking that word back because we love our country, and we’re determined to fight for it. And we’re also sexy. Have a great day!

Lock them up

Tomorrow is the deadline for top Trump aides to answer a congressional subpoena from the Jan. 6 committee, and the Guardian is reporting that the henchmen to the worst president in history are refusing under Trump’s orders. One of them, Scavino, can’t even be found to be served. So our big question is this — what are Democrats gonna do about it? More: The Guardian, CNN

Here we go again

Once again today Republicans will vote to filibuster Democratic efforts to raise the debt ceiling, once again flirting with default which would usher in a new recession and kill 6 million jobs. The GOP response if that happens? “Too bad.” Yep, they are the fucking worst. It’s gotten so bad that yesterday the president said he was open to the idea of a filibuster carveout. And that’s great and all, but it still takes 50 senators and two of ours are Republicans. Stay tuned. More: Washington Post, Washington Post II

Drop AT&T today

In a shocking report out this morning, Reuters details how AT&T essentially created and funded One America News, the propaganda outlet that has worked with Trump and Giuliani to destroy American democracy. What was OAN’s response? They ran the Reuters story. So yeah, we need to call cancel that shit like today. Oh and it’s pretty fucking gross that the Dallas Morning News caved to AT&T when folks tried to run ads showing who they really are. More: Reuters, CNBC
